The Story Behind
Quality Restaurant Concepts & Slice Of The Pie
Applebee’s was founded in 1980 by Bill and T.J. Palmer in Atlanta, GA. Our founders’ goal was to provide guests exceptional dining in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. In 1983 the concept was sold to W.R. Grace and Company which jump-started the company’s nationwide expansion through franchising.
Quality Restaurant Concepts, LLC (QRC) was started in 1988 by Fred Gustin and Glenn (Blackie) Durham. Operating under the name “Applebee’s of North Alabama” at the time, the first Applebee’s location was located at the Brookwood Village Mall in Birmingham, AL.
In 1998 Fred and Blackie purchased 26 additional Applebee’s restaurants in Mississippi, Georgia, and eastern Tennessee. In 1998, the name of the company was changed to “Quality Restaurants” to reflect their geographic expansion.
Currently, QRC has 60 Applebee’s locations..
